The Foundation was humbled by the success of the Sudbury Smilezone, as dozens of local politicians, Health Sciences North employees, local families, community members, media representatives and the Sudbury Wolves owners all joined together to celebrate the new Zone. The Grand Opening Ceremony for this installation was held on Friday December 12th, and media outlets are still buzzing with excitement!
Sportsnet representatives were able to go into the new Zone and interview our co-founder, Adam Graves, featuring this Sudbury Smilezone within their Hometown Hockey segment. Additionally, the Grand Opening also received attention from local media outlets; including, The Sudbury Star, Northern Life, Rogers Radio Sudbury, CBLFT- Le Telejournal Ontario on French CBC TV, and CTV Northern Ontario.
Highlights from the opening included: Mark Burgess, owner of the Sudbury Wolves Hockey Club, sharing kind words about the Foundation as he presented a $10, 000 donation on behalf of the Burgess and Edwards Families and Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger attending the opening and touring the new Zone. Finally, a parent of a child getting treatment at the unit concluded the event by giving a heartwarming speech that left every person leaving with a smile.
